Trapezoidal roofs are a popular roofing design characterized by non-parallel sloped sides, resembling a trapezoid in profile. Commonly used in industrial and commercial buildings, trapezoidal roof systems offer enhanced durability, efficient water drainage, and a sleek, modern appearance that improves energy efficiency and building performance. Solar panels are typically mounted on trapezoidal roofs using two primary techniques: clamp systems and rail-based systems.

  1. Clamp Systems: Specialized mounting clamps are attached directly to the raised ridges of the trapezoidal metal roof, securely holding the panels without penetrating the roof, ensuring a watertight seal and reducing installation time.
  2. Rail-Based Systems: In this method, mounting rails are fastened to the roof using self-drilling screws, often placed at the raised ridges. The solar panels are then attached to these rails, allowing for greater flexibility in panel positioning and easy maintenance. This method is slightly more invasive but offers more adaptability for larger arrays.

Both methods ensure stability, weather resistance, and minimal roof damage, making them ideal for trapezoidal roofs in solar installations.

The clamp system is the most popular mounting method on trapezoidal roofs. This leaves a narrow space between the roof and the panels, ideal for nesting birds. Unchecked, these birds can cause serious damage to wiring, reduce system efficiency, and lead to costly maintenance. Birdblocker designed the BB85 specifically for this application with a raised connecting bridge and shorter fingers for ideal functionality.

Solar panels on ‘rail’ mounting systems (usually minirail) typically require the BB125 to cover the extra height, ensuring full protection regardless of the mounting style.

Effective bird protection requires a solution that fully covers both the height and the entire perimeter of your solar installation. BirdBlocker is made from UV-resistant, weatherproof materials, built to endure harsh outdoor conditions and safeguard your investment all year round.
